Gentry carries the season's hardest dramatic shift: a fifteen-year-old who has spent season one inside a half-comic teen-drama register and now has to absorb the fact that her mother is a murderer. Her work in the therapy storyline — small, watchful, refusing the show's usual quippy rhythm — is what lets the writers' room treat self-harm and identity as something other than a sweeps-episode beat.

Brianne Howey

Howey has to play three Georgias in parallel — the Wellsbury mayor's fiancée at the country club, the Southern teenage runaway in flashback, and the mother her daughter is now openly investigating — and to make all three feel like the same person operating on different timelines. The performance's signature is its tonal whiplash inside a single take: hostess-bright on a sentence, predatory on the next.

Diesel La Torraca

La Torraca's nine-year-old Austin is the season's quietest engine. The script keeps placing him in rooms where the adults have stopped noticing him, and his job — increasingly — is to be the household member holding the piece of evidence everyone else is talking around. The performance underplays the awareness, which is precisely what makes the late-season scenes with Paul land.

Jennifer Robertson

Robertson's Ellen is the season's load-bearing neighbour: a Wellsbury suburban mum who carries the show's only stable adult-female friendship outside the Miller house and whose kitchen is where Georgia practises being a person who is not running. Robertson plays the warmth without softening into sitcom-mom register, and her late-season scenes with Marcus give the Baker household its own dramatic centre.

Felix Mallard

Mallard plays Marcus as the season's deliberately decelerated character — a teenage boyfriend written as someone managing a clinical depression rather than performing one. His bedroom-window scenes with Ginny are the show's argument that the teen-drama register can hold the same emotional weight as the thriller register; the relationship is the only place on the show where neither character is being a lawyer to the other.

Sara Waisglass

Waisglass's Max is the season's escape valve: a Wellsbury High theatre kid whose comic timing keeps the show in its half-comedy register even after the monkshood plot has tipped the other half into pure thriller. Her best episodes are the ones where Max refuses to forgive Ginny on the show's preferred schedule — a friendship plot written as something other than a misunderstanding waiting to be cleared up.
