Why it's similar — André Øvredal's Demeter takes the single ship-crossing sequence Eggers compresses into Nosferatu's middle act and unpacks it into a feature-length closed-room horror — the same merchant schooner, the same coffins of grave-earth, the same gradual elimination of the crew. The two films are essentially adjacent chapters of the same Stoker passage, told from opposite sides of the dock.

Why it's similar — Rob Savage's Stephen King adaptation runs the same nightmare-bedroom register Eggers is operating in: a young female protagonist whose interior life has been refused medical legibility, a household whose adults have decided in advance that her symptoms are anxiety rather than visitation, and a long sequence of doors closed in the dark.
